Welcome to the website of Sawdust Wood Fuels (SWF), Scotland. We are a manufacturer and supplier of wood fuels, mainly wood briquettes, based in the heart of Perthshire. Our main aim is to offer an alternative wood fuel to firewood logs which are often far too wet to burn and leave customers frustrated.
We have teamed up with recycling company DJ Laing which supplies us with wood waste material from pallets, potato boxes and packaging to make our briquettes.
This is recycling in its true sense!
Our briquettes burn like wood and glow like coal. We do have an open house policy so if you are in our neck of the woods please feel free to come along and see for yourself. You can buy directly from us and see some briquetting action while you're here!
See our Stockists page for product availability in your own local area.
No more seasoning, drying, and storing firewood
Not everybody has the time or interest to prepare and store firewood in order to make it suitable for burning, and this is where Sawdust Wood Fuels comes into play…
We offer briquettes made from sawdust or bark which will always burn because they are always dry and ready to burn when you buy them! There is no need for seasoning and drying and lengthy times for storing.
Let us explain how wood briquettes are made and how they work…
Green product from waste materials
Sawdust, which is a waste product of the wood processing industry, is kiln dried and compressed into a round block by a briquette press. As the sawdust is compressed, the lignin in the wood acts as a natural glue and binds the briquette together.
There are no additives at all and that makes wood briquettes a natural and green product. As the sawdust from which they are made is dry (on average 10% wood moisture content or less) it will burn well, leaving your stove window clear and clean with no build ups of soot.
Blackened glass usually comes from the wood being too wet when it is burned.
Because our wood briquettes are so dry, they will light up quickly and burn very hot.
The wood fuel of the future
We regard wood briquettes as the wood fuel of the future as they are easy and convenient to handle, as well as being carbon neutral.
Wood and bark briquettes are suitable for both stoves and open fires and are cheaper than your average firewood, when comparing like for like.
SWF sell these products from their Tay Farm premises in Meikleour and through retailers in Scotland. We also offer a home delivery service.
We are interested in meeting traders who can also think outside the box and are keen to join us in making wood briquettes more popular. These can be private individuals as well as established businesses anywhere in Scotland. Please get in touch and pop in for a cuppa next to the fire.
